Develop Disciples to Serve
Christ’s first followers were called the “disciples,” which literally means “learners.” We seek to live this initiative by continually learning as individuals and as a community. Our focus is developing knowledge and skills that we can use in the service of humanity.
From childhood, the church fosters education through our Youth Camp, Junior, and Senior High Camps and through international gatherings like SPEC (Spectacular). Community of Christ’s international headquarters at the Temple in Independence, Missouri, includes a Temple School, which develops educational courses for our members and our ministers. In depth courses here in Canada are offered through the MEADS (Ministerial Education and Discipleship Studies) program. The church also sponsors the Community of Christ Seminary through Graceland University. In addition, Toronto Centre Place hosts a popular series of lectures on history, theology, and philosophy on its YouTube channel (CentrePlace.ca/lectures).
We have been called to be a “prophetic people,” and we encourage our members to develop the tools they need to discern life’s meaning together.
