Zerin Development Corporation
Zerin is a charitable non-profit developer and manager of affordable housing units in Ontario.
Incorporated in 1977 and sponsored by Community of Christ in Canada, Zerin is organized to relieve poverty by providing accommodation for people living on low income. We believe that mixing tenants on low income (paying rent-geared-to-income) with tenants paying market rent, is beneficial for all tenants and for the community as a whole.
Zerin has always striven to create respectful communities where people live in dignity with hope and joy. This vision still rings true today as we seek to develop and manage affordable housing initiatives in which a sense of community and mutual respect can flourish.
Zerin's first housing project in 1978 was the rehabilitation of a 15-unit apartment building in Toronto. Some refugee families who escaped oppressive regimes in Central and South American countries became its first tenants, forming a supportive community for one another.
Zerin’s second housing project in 1984 involved the construction of a 40-unit apartment building in London for seniors. Named “Zerin Place,” the facility continues to be highly regarded for its appearance, its outstanding management, and its strong financial position.
More recently, Zerin has acquired a 2-acre site on Clarke Road in East London. Construction began in May 2020 on a 65-unit affordable housing apartment building scheduled for occupancy by the fall of 2021.
