Abolish Poverty, End Suffering
Suffering is a part of the human condition, but the world is filled with unnecessary suffering due to inequities, injustice, and violence that is systemic and global. Jesus proclaimed the advent of the “kingdom of God” on earth — an intentional, spiritual community that overturned the entrenched injustices of society. In his vision, he taught that “the last will be first and the first will be last” (Matthew 20:16) and that “blessed are you who are poor for yours is the kingdom of God” (Luke 6:20).
As a people, we are committed to building up the kingdom of God by abolishing the many forms of poverty that plague the earth. For example, to address housing injustice and homelessness, church members have created the Zerin Development Corporation and the Sionito Group of Charities, which operate four existing housing projects in the cities of London and Toronto and are currently building three new projects.
Other church members founded World Accord into order to foster communities that thrive around the world in impoverished and underdeveloped countries. To ensure that women from low income backgrounds have the ability to feed their infants, church members founded the MOM (Mothers own Milk) Project in Calgary. These are just a few of the ways we are actively working to fulfill this Mission Initiative.
