About All Voices – Discerning Across Canada
The shutdowns of the past year have been unprecedented in our lives and in the life of the church. The extraordinary time has caused us to experience everything differently and that has also been true for our church experience. Hopefully, we can use this extraordinary time as a catalyst for reflection. We have been forced out of our complacency by necessity. What have we learned about our lived church experiences? What are the essentials?
President Steve Veazey has called the whole church into discernment as we ponder how we are moving toward Jesus, the peaceful One. Apostle Art Smith has given a similar charge to Community of Christ in Canada, inviting us to share and listen to All Voices — all of the stakeholders who participate in church identity in Canada. (Not just those who attend congregations in-person at 11 am on a Sunday, since almost none of us do that at present.)
We want to hear from those who experience our shared identity through Reunions and our camps, from those who experience our mission through auxiliary charities: Encounter World Religions, World Accord, Zerin and Sionito Social Housing. From those who have been engaged in some of our new invitational ministries, including Creating Connection groups.
We want to hear from our elders and from our youth, from those in urban, suburban, and rural locations. Western Canadians and Eastern Canadians, Francophone, Anglophone, First Nations, immigrants. Those of all gender identities and expressions. In short, we want the conversation to reflect the rich tapestry of the Community of Christ experience in Canada.
