Responsible Choices
God gives humans the ability to make choices about how to live their lives.
Many people experience conditions that diminish their ability to make choices, but we all share the reality that our choices contribute to good or evil in our communities and in the world.
Many aspects of creation need redemption because of irresponsible and selfish human choices.
Jesus taught his disciples that doing good involved more than being obedient to a fixed set of rules — such as “thou shalt not” do this or that.
When he broke contemporary religious rules that required rest on the Sabbath day to heal the sick, he set an example of making responsible choices.
Rather than blindly following the letter of the law, we are called to discern its true spirit in our own context and circumstances.
